By the end of 1976, Redland, Ashley Down, Unity Street and Frenchay had become a part of the Bristol Polytechnic.
In 1992, the University of the West of England was granted university status after the Further and Higher Education Act was released that year. In 2016, UWE Bristol rebranded itself by introducing a new logo as part of its marketing strategy. The coat of arms of the University of the West of England is a homage to the history of merchant navigation school and is still recognized and valued to the present day.
