History

The University of Roehampton in the UK was first established in 1975 as Roehampton Institute of Higher Education. With a history of over 180 years, Roehampton was one of London’s first public universities. In the early 19th century, four teacher training colleges named Digby Stuart College, Froebel College, Southlands College and Whitelands College were established to provide academic excellence for women. These four colleges were later merged in 1975 to form the Roehampton Institute of Higher Education.

In 2011, Roehampton Institute of Higher Education was officially renamed as the University of Roehampton. The University of Roehampton is one of London’s most reputed public universities offering undergraduate, postgraduate and research programmes for the UK and international students.

There are around 20 buses an hour commuting from the main site to Whitelands and providing links to Barnes station, Richmond, Putney, Clapham Junction and more.

The service is expected to extend from September 2021, where it will open routes as far as Wimbledon Station, hence connecting London tram and overland train services for all students and staff.
