History

The University of Bradford in the UK started its journey back in 1832 as a Mechanics Institute. It was a plate-glass institute that became part of the Royal Charter in 1966. The exciting fact about the institute is that this became the 40th University of Britain that year. Prime Minister Harold Wilson was the first Chancellor of the university. From 1832 to 1966 we can see the journey of the educational institution at a glance-

  • 1882- Technical College
  • 1957- Bradford Institute of Technology formed as a College of Advanced Technology.
  • 1963 to 1970- Achieved Charter of Incorporation, expansion of campus buildings and other facilities.
  • 1970 to 1990- The expansion of departments and other facilities continued. Bradford became one of the twelve founding members of the Northern Consortium in 1987.
  • 21st Century- The University went for a merger with Leeds Metropolitan University in April 2009 but later it didn’t work.

Courses Offered by University of Bradford

Living Accommodation

The University of Bradford in the UK offers comfortable housing systems for students. It has an on-campus student village. It is called The Green Village which is also nearer to the city centre and other local places. Spacious and en-suite rooms are available here. The facilities include wi-fi, onsite launderette, completely fitted, well-equipped kitchen/dining area, shared or en-suite shower room, well-furnished study bedroom with a 24-hour security system. Again, there is also a support team that provides assistance to the students. A good-facilitated student lounge and insurance service are also available in the village. The Green is the first student residential project to achieve the BREEAM accolade of ‘outstanding’. The weekly accommodation cost here is £75-90.

Another option to live in is Townhouses. These are inexpensive, well-decorated bock of houses. Alongside every necessary facility, it also has access to the outside garden.

If students wish they can look for private residences nearer to the campus too. A cost of £50-£55 on average is needed to find good houses.

Transport

Bradford is located exactly in the middle of the UK. So, students can access any place easily at a low transport cost. The city has first-class roads and rail connections and an international airport. Walking paths, cycles and local transports are the best and cheap options for small distances students. Again, if they want to go to the nearer cities like Leeds, Ilkley, Manchester, Hebden Bridge, etc. then these can be also visited within less time from Bradford.
