History

The University of Manchester originated with the amalgamation of the Victoria University of Manchester and the University Of Manchester Institute Of Science and Technology (UMIST), In 2004, the red brick university was established in the major industrial cities of England and was famous among the nine civic universities in the 19th century (after the civic university movement).

The main campus of the University of Manchester is located at the south of Manchester city centre on Oxford Road in England. At first, the University consists of three faculties and then, it is subdivided into schools teaching with the undergraduate and postgraduate programs, This institution is the 3rd largest as well as a single-site university in the UK.

The University is well-known for its’ financial endowments and after the reputed universities of Cambridge, Oxford, takes place the fifth-largest endowment of any university in the UK. The cultural attraction of the Manchester Museum, John Rylands Library, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Jodrell Bank Observatory, Whitworth Art Gallery, all are operated by the University.

• The University Research Faculties provide many facilities like Flow Cytometry Facility, Genomic Technologies Core Facility, Electron Microscopy Core Facility, and so on.

Student Life

The University of Manchester belongs to the country’s largest students’ union. The Union is a mouthpiece of students that take every necessary step for students’ well-fare. It is active enough from the University welcome week to the Alumni night. Therefore, the institute provides award- winning services and make the most out of the university experience. Students from different cultures, languages, religions and ethnic groups create community meetings and make friends from across the world. Today’s The University of Manchester Students’ Union is an amalgamation of the University of Manchester Union and the UMIST Students’ Association.

Therefore, an executive team of 8 members is committed to working for the betterment of the institution. Students can participate in sports as well as well-being facilities. The Armitage Sports Centre, the Manchester Aquatics Centre, Sugden Sports Centre, and the Wellbeing Rooms are available on campus.

The University’s holistic development runs by the students that provide counseling services, free sports, and well-being activities, workshops like time management, essay writing, or referencing. Accommodation

The University provides guaranteed accommodation for international students. Denmark Road is the high demandable accommodation closed to the academic campus. The George Kenyon Hall is another high demandable building that provides facilities with self-contained flats shared kitchen in each flat, modern en suite facilities, audiovisual common rooms or a launderette, and so on. An active Residents Association executes the events throughout the year. The kitchen/lounge is well-equipped with a microwave, toaster, cooker, freezer, etc.

The Horniman house situated on the corner of Oxford Road belongs to excellent transport links, shops and restaurants. The Weston Hall is a self-catered residence operated by a residential life team. Whitworth Park, situated near to the sports centre, libraries and Students Union. Bar in residence, computer cluster, sports facilities, on-site security, key card controlled access, laundry facility are available here. The Wright Robinson Hall provides single study bedrooms, rooms for twin occupancy, telephone and Ethernet connection, wardrobe space, a washbasin, and so on.

Transport

The transport system of Manchester city is developed enough to travel easily from one place to another. Students can travel by bicycle, buses, taxi, train, and trams. Cycling is the cheapest method of traveling across the Manchester student areas. Students remain happy to travel with Manchester’s Magic buses where tickets are much cheaper.

University of Manchester staff and students get free tickets to travel around the Sackville Street and Oxford Road areas. The taxi is available at Piccadilly Station that costs around £5. Piccadilly and Victoria are the two major train stations including the almost free bus link. The Metrolink is the Manchester’s frequent tram service. Last but not the least, regular flights are available at the Manchester Airport along with excellent road and rail links into the rest of the UK.
