History

The University of Manchester originated with the amalgamation of the Victoria University of Manchester and the University Of Manchester Institute Of Science and Technology (UMIST), In 2004, the red brick university was established in the major industrial cities of England and was famous among the nine civic universities in the 19th century (after the civic university movement).

The Horniman house situated on the corner of Oxford Road belongs to excellent transport links, shops and restaurants. The Weston Hall is a self-catered residence operated by a residential life team. Whitworth Park, situated near to the sports centre, libraries and Students Union. Bar in residence, computer cluster, sports facilities, on-site security, key card controlled access, laundry facility are available here. The Wright Robinson Hall provides single study bedrooms, rooms for twin occupancy, telephone and Ethernet connection, wardrobe space, a washbasin, and so on.

Transport

The transport system of Manchester city is developed enough to travel easily from one place to another. Students can travel by bicycle, buses, taxi, train, and trams. Cycling is the cheapest method of traveling across the Manchester student areas. Students remain happy to travel with Manchester’s Magic buses where tickets are much cheaper.

University of Manchester staff and students get free tickets to travel around the Sackville Street and Oxford Road areas. The taxi is available at Piccadilly Station that costs around £5. Piccadilly and Victoria are the two major train stations including the almost free bus link. The Metrolink is the Manchester’s frequent tram service.
