The University is one of the top research institutions in the UK and is home to eminent scholars and practitioners in the fields of science, the humanities, social sciences, economics, and law.

The two colleges that make up modern-day University Royal Holloway were established separately, by social activists Elizabeth Jesser Reid and Thomas Holloway.

London’s Bedford College first welcomed students in 1849, and the majestic Founder’s Building at Royal Holloway College was unveiled by Queen Victoria in 1886 and is the campus’s centerpiece today.

The colleges combined in 1985 to establish what is presently known as the University of London Royal Holloway after joining the University of London in 1900.
