The University of South Wales, formerly known as Glamorgan University, was set up in 2013. With the founding of the Newport Institute, the roots of this public university can be traced back to 1841. Student support

Excellent support and guidance is given to international students, from before they enroll through to graduation. The university has a team of Immigration and International Student Advice who provide advice on topics such as immigration, cultural issues, and UK everyday life. All students also have access to a health facility, a play center located at USW Pontypridd, and a chaplaincy that provides all students with a transparent and affirmative service. Students are also able to join a Student Money Advisory Team and a Disability Program that offers students individual support plans.

On each campus, there are Advice Zones to assist with personal or academic issues, a Wellness Program to offer advice and free advice, and student advisors that can answer questions even before a student begins university. On each campus, the university has a library, each one with a variety of facilities and resources. Students can access books, magazines, PCs, and Wi-Fi and access several online services. Through research skills tutors, the university also provides tutorials.

Student life

USW, with lively towns and idyllic countryside and coasts, is in an outstanding part of the UK. Students studying a creative course will be based in a modern capital city called USW Cardiff. Students will enjoy a lively live music and arts scene, great nightlife, shopping, history, and live sport. With Cardiff being a major center for media production in the UK, the possibilities for creative students are limitless.

The Student Union at University of South Wales runs some outstanding campus venues, introducing the very best of live music to students, club nights, international parties, and all the big sporting events. With over 65 sports clubs, including soccer, cricket, basketball, hockey, rugby, and golf to choose from.

USW Newport is one of the most famous buildings at the university and couldn’t be based in a better place to embrace city life. Friars Walk, the retail development, is directly opposite and overflowing with restaurants, bars and shops. USW Pontypridd is surrounded by green open spaces with a fantastic student culture, but a night out or shopping trip is just 20 minutes from Cardiff by train. Though students studying at USW Pontypridd will be a train ride away from city life, the campus-based Students’ Union ensures there is still plenty going on to keep you busy.

Accommodation

Students reside in the Mountain Halls or Glamorgan Court at USW Pontypridd, both based on campus. As well as studio flats, Mountain Halls has regular or premium rooms available.

Liberty Bridge and Liberty Gardens are provided by USW Cardiff – both in the city centre – one opposite the campus and the other only a short walk away.

Students studying at USW Newport can live in the Student Village in Newport. these new halls are in the middle of the city and a two-minute walk from campus.

Transport

South Wales is well linked to Cardiff International Airport, and London is only a two-hour train ride away. In South Wales, USW has three campuses, all close to Cardiff, a safe, small city home to thousands of students.

Excellent transport connections make it easy to travel across southern Wales. A 20-minute train ride from Cardiff, Pontypridd Campus is surrounded by stunning scenery and historical sites, while Newport is only 10 minutes away by train, close to the border of Wales/England.

Location

Cardiff’s international airport and the region’s proximity to London via train make getting to and from South Wales a breeze.

All three of USW’s campuses in south Wales are close to Cardiff, a nice and relatively small city where tens of thousands of students live.

The convenience of South Wales’s transportation system makes exploring the region a breeze. The Pontypridd Campus, which is close to the Welsh and English borders, is only ten minutes by train from Newport and twenty minutes from Cardiff.
