History

Bangor University was established in Bangor, Wales in 1884. Situated in North West of London, the university is host to more than 2,500 students who come from over 100 different countries. The university is one of the oldest educational institutions in the United Kingdom.

For over 135 years, Bangor University has been committed to academic excellence. They are one of the most prestigious degree awarding educational institutions in the United Kingdom. The university’s unique location on the coast indicates that it’s an excellent institution to study Ocean Science.

However, over time, the university has become for its other programs, notably Electronic Engineering, Sports Science, and Accounting and Finance. The university offers free English courses and support to international students, including classes in English vocabulary and grammar and business English.
They also offer drop-in sessions for students in need of immediate support and an English writing advice service. The university is home to more than 150 societies and clubs. Since it offers free membership to its societies and clubs, all students get the opportunity to partake in them.

Students can enrol in most of the university’s degrees with a placement year or international experience to obtain important employability skills.

The international fee for students coming to study from abroad is estimated to be between £12,500 to 15,300 with an international student ratio of 14%.

Student Life

Bangor is an affordable educational institution located between the sea and the mountains. The nightlife and the rich culture provide students with several entertainment options. The university has its own nightclub called “Academi” for socialising, has two residential bars, Barlows and Bar Uno, for eating, drinking, and hanging out, and the Pontio Arts and Innovation Centre, which is an art and entertainment venue.

The university’s ideal location is an excellent option for students who love the outdoors, as it gives them access to outdoor sports such as mountain biking, kayaking, and hiking. The university also organises a wide range of day trips, movie nights, Sunday lunches, their annual concert, and open mic nights.

Living Accommodations of Bangor University

Bangor University has 3,000 rooms available for students across two locations. All accommodation is self-catered, and a free gym membership is available to all students who live in Bangor University accommodation. All Bangor University students are guaranteed university accommodation in their first year.

Transportation

Most university buildings are within walking distance from the city centre and student housing. Students can take the bus service, which operates within the city. They can use direct trains coming from Manchester, London, Cardiff, and Crewe.

Bangor has a road connecting the north Walescoast from the M6 to the M56. Students can take the ferry service to visit Ireland from the Holyhead. By train, Bangor is only two hours away from the airport in Liverpool and Manchester. Students can visit Anglesey airport if they want to travel to Cardiff during the weekday.
